Volcano eruption 1/10th of its original size

The eruption still has no effect here in Leirubakki. No ash has fallen here. Over the last few days the ash is only visible as a very fine dust on cars near the eruption site. The Campsite at Leirubakki

The campsite at Leirubakki will be open from May 15th – September 15th the summer of 2010. The campsite is perfectly located for people going to the Mt Hekla or Landmannalaugar, and Leirubakki is the last bus-stop before the highlands.

This good looking owl (Asio flammeus) honoured the people at Leirubakki with a surprise visit on Christmas day. It flew into the sheep-house but could not find the way back again without help. The owl was looking good and in a fine shape, probably due to the mild winter and a very good year for mice in the South Iceland in 2009. Leirubakki and its...... This picture shows the people of Leirubakki, Anders Hansen and Valgerður Brynjólfsdóttir with the owl, before it got its freedom again and flew happy towards the lava field.
